CONSTITUTION AND BY-LAWS

 

Article 1

Name- This organization shall be known as Media Area Girls Softball.

Article II

Objective - The objective of Media Area Girls Softball shall be to serve the community by providing school-age girls with organized recreational activity under adult supervision teaching them the game of softball, developing their athletic abilities, and instilling in them fundamental concepts of good sportsmanship, teamwork, honesty, fair play and respect for others.

 

Article III

Board of Directors:

1. The board shall consist of the following members: a) President

   a) President

   b) Vice President -Recreation

   c) Vice President -Fast Pitch

   d) Treasurer

   e) Equipment/Fields/Gyms

   f) Secretary/Communication g) Registration/Statistics

   h) Commissioner Senior Division

   i) Commissioner Intermediate Division

   j) Commissioner Grade School

   k) Immediate Past President

 

2. Each member of the board shall serve a one year term of office beginning on the date of the Annual Board Meeting in December.


3. Each member shall be elected by majority vote of the operating members in attendance at the Annual Meeting in December. Each Board member holding office by virtue of previous league procedures on the date of the adoption of this Constitution and By-Laws shall continue in office until the expiration of their respective terms as herein provided


4. The Board of Directors shall be responsible for all matters affecting the operation keeping in mind the best interest of the League as a whole. The Board of Directors responsibilities shall include but not limited to coordinating the operations of the travel and recreational divisions, matters of overall league policy, finances, fund raising, registration, long range planning, insurance and other contracts and relations with the surrounding communities. The Board shall also be responsible for approving any Rules of play which may be adopted by recreational commissioners.

 

5. Should a vacancy occur in any elected board position it shall be filled by a majority vote of all the Board members. Vacancies shall only be filled for the unexpired position of the vacant term.

 

Article IV

 

 

Board Meetings -Board meetings are to be held the first Monday of every Month unless otherwise stated at the previous meeting. All meetings are open to the public. A time will be allotted at the beginning of each meeting for public question and answers. A quorum for the transaction of business at any regular or special meeting of the Board of Directors shall consist of one more than half the voting members of the Board; but a majority of those present at any regular or special meeting shall have the power to adjourn the meeting to a future time.

 

Article V


Registration will be done January through March of each year. Unless girls move up into a different division they will stay on the same team. Unless that team has disbanded and the remaining girls will enter the draft. A draft will be held for all new payers in the recreational division. Girls wishing to play fast-pitch softball must live in either the Rose Tree Media School district or the Wallingford Swarthmore School District. Girls residing outside these boundaries must have a letter from their respective Del-Val Team in order to be considered eligible to play for Media. If for some reason a fast pitch team does not have enough girls from the are then they will be allowed to recruit.

 

Article VI

 

 

Rules -Subject to the approval of the Board of Directors the Commissioners shall adopt and amend rules of play for their respective divisions. Where not in conflict with Division rules the rules of the Amateur Softball Association of America (ASA) shall apply. The fast-pitch teams are under the rules and guidelines set forth by the Del- Val League. Protests shall be decided by the commissioner and respective coaches of the divisions.

 

Article VII

 

 

Amendments to these By-Laws may be made, by a majority vote of the members of the Board of Directors, at any meeting; or at any special meeting when the proposed amendment has been set forth in a notice of such meeting.

 

Article VIII

 

 

Officers shall serve without compensation. No part of the earnings of the organization shall inure to the benefit of, or be distributed to, its members, trustees, officers, or other private persons, except the organization shall be authorized and empowered to pay reasonable compensation for services rendered and to make payments and distributions in furtherance of its purpose.

 

Article IX

 

 

Coaches wishing to coach in the Media Area Girls Softball League must submit a PA child Abuse History Clearance (CY -113) form. Payable by the league. All coaches and assistant coaches must be at least 21 (twenty-one) years of age.
