- What is the difference between Slow Pitch and Fast Pitch?
Fast Pitch softball is for girls who want to play competitive softball and hope to play in high school. Slow Pitch offers the opportunity for girls of all skill
levels to have fun, while participating as part of a team. Fast Pitch players are expected to make a commitment to their team. It requires more time, practicing at home and travel to games outside of the Media Area.
- Can my daughter play on multiple teams?
While their hitting will generally suffer, girls can play on teams in both the Fast Pitch division and Slow Pitch division . No girls will be on two teams the same division. Girls may play for their school's team. If a girl is on more than one team, it is very important to let the team coach know if a player cannot attend a practice or game.
- How do I get to the fields?
Look for field locations on the Field Locations link on this web site. For Slow Pitch games, look at the Media locations, for Fast Pitch games, look the Del-Val locations. If a field is not listed, please e-mail us.
- When will my team's schedule be available?
The Slow Pitch schedule is usually available by April 1. The Fast Pitch schedule will be from the Del Val league by April 20.
- When are games played?
Slow Pitch games are played weeknights at 6:00 PM and Saturday's at 9:00 AM, 11:00 AM or 1:00 PM only in the spring. There is no set night. A team will usually have 1 or 2 games a week.
Fast Pitch teams will play home games on the same night. Most Fast Pitch games are at Barrall Field. The times for away Del Val games varies. It depends on the opponent. Del Val games are almost always held on weeknights.
- When will practices be held?
The days and times for practices depends on the coach's schedule and field availability.
For Fast Pitch, there will usually be one or two nights a week for each team for practice. Additional times may be scheduled for batting practice.
For most Slow Pitch teams, practices are held once or twice a week, only until the season begins.
Please remember that the coaches are all volunteers whose lives are as complicated as your own and that their schedules are probably as complicated as your own.
- When will the season begin
The Slow Pitch season typically begins around April 15, for the Senior Division and April 20 for Clinic, Junior and Intermediate players.
The Fast Pitch season depends on the Del Val league. League play usually starts around April 20.
- When will the season end?
The Fast Pitch season ends on approximately July 1. Teams in the playoffs may play another two weeks, depending on their success. The Slow Pitch season ends with the end of school in the spring.
- Are there playoffs?
Playoffs for Fast Pitch teams depends on the team's success. They will start around July 1 and can continue for over two weeks.
There are no playoffs in the Slow Pitch season.
- Who are the clinics for?
Media Softball has three clinics.
- The Spring clinic, for girls in Kindergarten and First grade, teaches the youngest girls the fundamentals of Softball.
- Winterball is held on Friday nights in January and February for girls in First though Fifth grades. New players are always welcome.
- The Fall clinic, held on Friday nights in September and October, is for any girl involved in MAGS who wants to continue to improve their skills and learn more techniques in a very relaxed atmosphere. This clinic is free of charge.
- How do we find out about game cancellations?
You should rely on your team's coach for news about game cancellations. We will try to put Slow Pitch and Home Del Val game cancellations on this web site. Games will may be canceled up to 1 hour before their start time.
- Who plays in tournaments?
Only Fast Pitch teams will play in a tournament. Tournaments teams representing Media Softball will generally be assembled prior to the season with the intention of playing in tournaments. Tryouts for these teams are usually held in December.
- What will my daughter miss at school?
No Media Softball games are played during school hours. There may be conflicts with after school activities. The Slow Pitch schedule is made up with many of these activities in mind. Conflicts with Fast Pitch games are more likely. For both Slow Pitch and Fast Pitch players, it is very important to let the team coach know if a player cannot attend a practice or game.

There is a lot adults can do to help Media Softball. You can coach or help coach a team. Or you could sponsor a team. Or you could may be able to use your professional skills to help us. Start by attending the monthly meeting or contacting on of the board members.

- What are the different Slow Pitch divisions?
There are 4 Slow Pitch divisions. They are divided by grade. The Clinic is for girls in Kindergarten and secomd grade. The Junior Division is for girls in second through fourth grade. Intermediate Division teams are made of up girls in fifth through seventh grade. Eighth grade and high school girls play in the Senior Division.
